The state Duma approved a ban on names with numbers and abbreviations

The state Duma in the first reading adopted a bill prohibiting the registration of children under the names contains numbers, symbols, abbreviations, and profanity, RIA Novosti reported.

As stated in the explanatory note, the legislation contains no rules requiring parents to give children names that do not violate their rights. “The Registrar may not refuse registration on the child’s behalf because of his name, offensiveness, lack of culture, naprasnosti. Employees of the registry office can not in any way affect the parents ‘choice”, — the document says.

The Duma Committee on family, women and children has approved a draft law establishing the requirements for names for children, in April 2016.
