Putin and Nazarbayev discussed the Syria

The presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev held a telephone conversation, the press service of the Kremlin. Putin thanked the President of Kazakhstan for reception in Almaty, and discussed with him topical issues of relations between the two countries. Among the topics discussed in particular were the issues of energy, reported on the Kremlin website. In addition, the leaders discussed the conflict in Syria, and negotiations for its settlement, which are held in Astana and Geneva. Putin visited Kazakhstan in late February.

Recall, the UN special envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura offered in Geneva to discuss issues of elections, governance, Constitution of Syria, and issues of the truce and fighting terrorism in Syria to decide on the talks in Astana.

Later, he said that in the framework of the Geneva talks discussed four topics, including issues related to the strategy to combat terrorism. He said that the discussion of counter-terrorism in the topics of the talks in Geneva included at the request of the Syrian authorities.
