“Shark” continues to terrify US military

Russian nuclear submarine of project “Akula”, developed in the mid-80s, even 30 years later, superior to American counterparts. This writes a former teacher with the peace Corps in China Sebastian Roblin in his article for the National Interest.

So, according to Roblin, Russian submarines are much quieter than American. Anechoic plate, which covered the boat both outside and inside, can significantly reduce the produced submarine noise, and drainage holes in outer skin have a retractable cover, which minimize any sounds.

These improvements, according to the author, make the submarine class “Shark” is much quieter even superior U.S. submarine class the Los Angeles. Currently in the US Arsenal remains 43 submarines of this type.

As confirmation of his words, Roblin cites the fact that in 2009, the Russian submarines managed to come unnoticed to the East coast of the United States, and three years later the Russian submarine “Shark” was able to spend a month in the Gulf of Mexico, undetected.

In conclusion the author comes to the conclusion that all these cases only confirm the urgent need to improve anti-submarine defense.
