Patrushev saw 60% growth in the number of juvenile addicts

The number of drug addicts in Russia has increased by 60 percent. This was stated by Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev at a meeting at the Mound, reports TASS. However, he did not specify for what period of time is given by the statistics.

“The drug situation in the country continues to be characterized as harsh,” he said, adding that the total number of Russians who drink the “potion” is 640 thousand people and is not reduced within five years.

According to Patrushev, in 2016, the country seized 22 tons of drugs and made more than 201 thousand crimes associated with them. In addition, in Russia there are about 165 thousand criminals convicted of trafficking illegal substances.

Security Council Secretary also mentioned the low efficiency of preventive work in the framework of measures to combat drug trafficking. “Sometimes comes to the absurd, when prosecutors are forced through the courts to achieve a deprivation of the right of management by vehicles to the persons consisting on the account with the diagnosis “drug addiction”,” said he.

The Commissioner for children’s rights in Moscow region Ksenia Mironova reported by the National news service (NSN) that the minimum age at which minors begin to use drugs is six to seven years.
