Every second Russian has declared the unwillingness to see a woman President
Russians ‘ attitude to women politicians over the last year has deteriorated sharply. This is evidenced by the data of the survey “Levada-Center”, reports “Interfax”.
In General, do not approve of the conduct of women in political activities 30% of inhabitants of Russia, whereas a year ago the figure was only 20%. Every second Respondent (54%) are not ready to see a woman in charge of Russia in the next 10-15 years.
Not against the election of women to the post of President, only 33% of respondents. The remaining 13% of Russians are unable to determine the answer.
The proportion of Russians who don’t want women held senior government positions equally with men, have increased over the year from 28% to 38%. The number of supporters of equality in this issue dropped from 64% to 56%.
41% believe that the chances to improve in women and men is approximately equal. Almost half (48%) felt that men are still easier to achieve promotion, while 7% are sure to climb the career ladder easier women.
The survey was conducted from 17 to 20 February 2017 among 1,600 people in 137 localities of the 48 regions of Russia.
In February this year, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said that in Russia there is discrimination against women in terms of wages. According to Golodets, the average wage for women is only 73% of the average wage of men, while the education level of women is higher.
The Ministry of labour had previously developed a draft national strategy of actions in favour of women for the years 2017-2022. The document has already been sent to the government.
