The Supreme court explained the low number of acquittals

According to the court, in Russia, 90% of defendants admit their guilt.

Moscow. March 2. INTERFAX.RU — a Small percentage of acquittals in Russia due to the fact that 90% of defendants plead guilty, said on Thursday Deputy Chairman of the Supreme court of the Russian Federation Vladimir Davydov.

“Many criticize the model of the current procedure, but we have 100 defendants in 90 cases plead guilty. Do not know good or bad, but it’s a fact. 65% go in a special order (special order of consideration of the case includes a guilty plea in which the defendant is assigned no more than two thirds of the maximum term of punishment — if)”, — Davydov said at the opening of scientific-practical conference.

In his opinion, the media should not criticize the judicial system for a small percentage of acquittals.

“Some publications publish their ideas about acquittals, they should be 18-20%. They at all desire can not be as high 10%,” — said Davydov.

According to open sources, in recent years the acquittal rate in Russia is less than 1%.
