In the Kremlin to regret the decision of the European Union to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another six months. This was stated press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, transfers RIA Novosti on Wednesday, June 28.
According to the official representative of the Kremlin, Moscow will have to respond to this step. “The principle of reciprocity has not been canceled”, — he told, answering a corresponding question of journalists.
Earlier Wednesday it was reported that the EU Council unanimously decided to extend the limit until 31 January 2018. This was done after the report of the President of France Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the implementation of the Minsk agreements at the summit of leaders of member countries of the EU on 22-23 June.
Previously, the sanctions against Moscow were approved until 31 July 2017.
On 23 June the Chairman of the Duma international Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky expressed the view that the EU, once again extending the anti-Russian sanctions, goes to the “far West”, thereby driving themselves to a standstill.
At the end of December 2016, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that the government would remove counter-sanctions if the West completely cancels against Moscow imposed economic restrictions.
A number of countries, including the USA and member States of the European Union imposed restrictive measures against Russia in 2014 and linking them with the entry of the Crimea into the Russian Federation, and then the conflict in the South-East of Ukraine. In response, on 6 August 2014 Russia imposed an embargo on the import of products from these countries.
