Japan protested to China over disputed Islands
TOKYO, 24 Oct — RIA Novosti, Xenia Naka. The Japanese foreign Ministry protested to China in connection with the appearance of his ships within its territorial waters near disputed with China, the Senkaku Islands (Chinese name Diaoyu), said broadcaster NHK.
On Saturday morning, four coast guard ship of China has entered the territorial waters of Japan near the disputed Senkaku Islands (Chinese name Diaoyu) Islands and stayed in them for two hours, despite calls from the Japanese service of Maritime safety to leave the area. The Director of the Department of Asia and Oceania of the MFA of Japan Kenji Kanasugi handed over the protest of his country through the Chinese Embassy in Japan on the phone.
“The Senkaku Islands are the native territory of Japan. The invasion of territorial waters violates Japan’s sovereignty and totally unacceptable”, — quotes the words of the statement the broadcaster.
The Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu) Islands are subject to territorial dispute between China and Japan. Japan argues that occupies them since 1895, in Beijing, recalls that on Japanese maps 1783 and 1785 Diaoyu Islands designated as Chinese territory. After the Second world war the Islands were under US control and was transferred to Japan in 1972. In Taiwan and mainland China believe that Japan holds them illegally. Tokyo believes that China and Taiwan began to claim the Islands since 1970-ies, when it became clear that their waters rich in minerals.
