Putin proposed to issue passports to teenagers after the oath to the Fatherland

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a letter from the National parent Committee with a proposal to introduce an oath of allegiance to the Fatherland for teenagers, before the issuance of their passports on reaching 14 years of age, reports RT.

“The oath of the citizen of the Russian Federation will carry an important function — to contribute to the education of patriotism, of pride in their country and enhance civic responsibility for our young people,” — said in a letter to the head of the Committee Irina Volynets Putin.

According to Volynets, the passport should be a solemn event, comparable to the military oath, marriage or obtaining a diploma. To do this, the passport office should be equipped with special premises, with the official symbols of the country: flag and emblem.

Except the promise to abide by the laws of the Russian teenagers are going to be required to honor the tradition and history of the country. To strengthen the sense of community the oath I propose to make a group, the letter says.

According to the current legislation (article 11 of the law On citizenship), a passport of the Russian Federation for the attainment of persons 14 years of age is the acquisition of citizenship, so all they have acquired it by birth.

First Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on defense Andrei Krasov, said the National news service (NSN), before thinking about the oath for the youth, you must enter it “with respect to state and municipal officials to avoid violations and certain acts causing direct or indirect harm to our state, to embezzlement of state budget funds”.

Earlier, on June 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited legislators to “think and to take the experience of some foreign countries, when is the oath, the oath, the other the solemn act by which man confirms his intention to become a citizen of our country.”

The idea was supported by leaders of the Communist party Gennady Zyuganov and the liberal democratic party Vladimir Zhirinovsky. They presented their own versions of the oath. Another was prepared by the Vice-speaker of the state Duma Irina Yarovaya. June 15 these texts will be reviewed at the meeting of the ad hoc working group of the lower house of Parliament.
