Rada proposed to punish for the neglect and humiliation of the Ukrainian language
The Verkhovna Rada registered a bill on criminal responsibility for public humiliation of the Ukrainian language, and about the total dominance of it in the information space of the country. On Tuesday, June 13, reports the Ukrainian edition of “Vesti”.
“Public humiliation or neglect of the Ukrainian language was illegal, identical to the desecration of the state symbols of Ukraine and is punishable by law”, — the document says. The bill was registered in Parliament on June 9, according to the Council website.
Also the new norm is expected to be responsible for “the creation of obstacles and restrictions in the use of the Ukrainian language, a deliberate distortion of the Ukrainian language in official documents and texts, the use of the Ukrainian language in violation of the standards of the Ukrainian language”.
According to “Vesti”, the authors of the bill want to strengthen the position of the Ukrainian language not only in government but also in the service sector, hospitals, schools. Also, the new rule can be introduced the language of the Commission, which should monitor the implementation of legislation in this area.
A week earlier it became known that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law on introduction of a 75% quota on the use of the Ukrainian language on television.
