In Washington, because the parasites descend on the pond at the Lincoln Memorial
The pond near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington will be closed for a week in connection with the detection of parasites in it, killed may 20 and about 80 ducks.
According to the Telegraph, officials are blaming a parasite carried by snails and began to empty the pond for cleaning.
“We do not know the reason for the increase in the number of parasites, and probably won’t know,” said Michael Litterst, head of communications of the National Park.
Ducks in a pond — one of the most spoiled in the country. Not only that, they live in the heart of American democracy, their well-fed visitors, cared for by Park staff.
“People who come in contact with ducks can be infected with allergic dermatitis is a skin rash; it is not an infectious disease and rarely requires medical treatment. The risk of infection in the pool of the Lincoln Memorial very low, as the disease may develop in case of prolonged contact with the affected water,” — said in a statement.
The Park staff said that the pool will soon be again suitable for breeding ducks.
