The deployment by the United States elements of the global missile defense in Asia only aggravated the problems of the Korean Peninsula, said the Deputy head of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin.
“We are convinced that ongoing in the region under the auspices of the United States to deploy elements of a global missile defense not only not solve the existing problems on the Korean Peninsula, but, on the contrary, will only exacerbate them,” – said Fomin, speaking at the international conference “Shangri-La dialogue.”
“It is important to joint efforts to prevent the development of the situation crisis scenario and move the process towards negotiations that would meet the security interests of all countries in the region”, – said Deputy Minister of defense.
Sounding also in Japan the idea of capacity building of the national missile defense cannot but cause concern, said Fomin.
“Cannot but cause concern and sound in Tokyo the idea of building its own missile potential,” he said, Recalling also that it resulted in a distribution of THAAD in South Korea.
“The next steps, bringing ABOUT infrastructure to the Russian borders, of course, be taken into consideration when analyzing the situation and possible retaliation,” – said Fomin.
Moscow is seriously concerned by Pyongyang’s actions that are not conducive to lowering tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
“The intensity of the situation on the Korean Peninsula is of concern,” – said Fomin.
According to the Deputy head of the military Department, Russia, “as well as in other States, there are serious concerns about Pyongyang’s actions are not conducive to reducing tensions.”
