The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov said that “Lavrov plan” to resolve the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh does not exist. He commented in an interview to Azeri Press.
According to the Minister, now only discusses the collective proposals of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk group – Russia, USA and France. “Has repeatedly publicly stated that no “Lavrov plan” does not exist, – the diplomat said.
Lavrov noted that Moscow, Paris and Washington “have different views on the sequence of implementation of the” plan for settlement in the region, “not rejecting as a whole” it is based on. “That to change it or to propose new plans to radically change the scheme, developed by the co-chairs of the question”, – he stressed.
“It should be borne in mind that the theme of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement is a very delicate story, so the details of the negotiations are confidential. However, I can say that many aspects have already been agreed. Still have a few questions. But they are the most difficult,” Lavrov said, without specifying what the issues at stake. He noted that “the consensus could not be reached, but the work continues.”
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia around Nagorno-Karabakh continues with 1988, when the predominantly Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous oblast declared its withdrawal from Azerbaijan SSR. After the hostilities of 1992-1994, Azerbaijan lost control over Karabakh and seven surrounding districts. After that Nagorno-Karabakh declared independence.
Last year, the media reported that Lavrov supposedly have “anti-Armenian” plan, according to which the Armenians until the end of 2016 will return to the Azerbaijanis five districts of Karabakh out of seven, but this did not happen.
