The Belarusian authorities did not have a clear understanding of what to do with the Roman Protasevich, editor-in-chief of the opposition Telegram channel NEXTA, and his girlfriend, a Russian woman, Sophia Sapega, after landing a Ryanair plane in Minsk. In his opinion, the different attitude towards them today is due to their reaction to the arrest. Sapega and Protasevich were detained after an emergency landing in Minsk of a Ryanair plane, on which they flew from Athens to Vilnius. Later, she admitted on camera that she allegedly ran a Telegram channel in which the personal data of the Belarusian security officials were published. On June 25, it became known that the court decided to soften the measure of restraint and released Protasevich and Sapega under house arrest. Later, Protasevich gave an interview in which he confessed to organizing the riots and added that he wanted to “fix everything and live an ordinary calm life.” Protasevich's mother stated that he was tortured in the pre-trial detention center.
