The specialist stressed that the infection is looking for a new host among animals. “If it finds a new animal that will not kill it, it will remain there, there will be a new natural focal infection,” Zhemchugov noted.
In his opinion, the specific timing of the end of the pandemic will depend on the creation of herd immunity in 70 percent worldwide. He added that the World Health Organization (WHO) needs to take control of the situation and vaccinate the unvaccinated.
Earlier, the former chief infectious disease specialist in Moscow, Doctor of Medical Sciences Nikolai Malyshev, in an interview with Lenta.ru, assessed the chances of the omicron strain become a “natural vaccine” against COVID-19. He noted that experts do not yet have information about all the parameters of the new coronavirus.
