Moscow. March 7. INTERFAX.RU — the Kremlin has no position on the idea to hold the presidential election in 2018, on the third Sunday of March, the anniversary of the annexation of Crimea.

“While any position on this matter is not formed, so there will need some time to think about this initiative”, — said the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

Answering the question, how much time would be required for the consideration of the proposal, Peskov said:

Let’s say, in the foreseeable future, some clarity will appear here

Earlier in conversation with the correspondent of “Interfax” state Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin hailed the idea of holding elections on 18 March 2018.

Thus, the speaker supported the initiative of the senators, Andrei Klishas and Anatoly Shirokov, who introduced to the state Duma a number of amendments, including the possibility of postponing the elections of the President of the Russian Federation on March 18.

In accordance with the current law “On elections of President of the Russian Federation” the vote is held on the second Sunday of the month in which the vote was taken on the previous presidential elections.

If Sunday, which appointed the presidential election coincides with a holiday or the day after a holiday or if this Sunday is declared a working day, presidential elections are appointed on the preceding Sunday, i.e. the week before.

The senators, in turn, offer to postpone the elections a week later.
