More than three billion rubles were stolen from Russians

The Central Bank reported that cyber fraudsters stole 3.2 billion rubles from Russians in the third quarter.

The number of transactions without the consent of customers increased 1.4 times in annual terms, to 256.2 thousand. However, the share of social engineering in such operations in July-September fell from 63.8 to 41 percent.

The share of returned funds from the total volume of money stolen by fraudsters fell by 5.4 percentage points on an annualized basis (to 7, 7 percent), but increased by 0.3 percentage points in the quarter. On the initiative of the Central Bank, 24.4 thousand phone numbers of fraudsters were blocked in July-September.

The number of identified city phone numbers used by fraudsters increased by 150 percent compared to the same period last year (to 19.1 thousand ), and mobile numbers – by almost 80 percent, to more than five thousand.

Access to 1.9 thousand Internet resources was also limited. The overwhelming majority of them are sites of illegal financial organizations or resources that disguise themselves as sites of operating financial organizations. There were 114 sites of financial pyramids discovered, which is 1528 percent more than in the same period last year. The Central Bank plans to improve the procedure for the return of funds stolen by fraudsters.

Earlier it was reported that a new website of the Yandex Bank, which has not yet been launched, appeared on the network. The fake site copies the trademark of the real bank.
