TASS: the final of the Grand Prix in figure skating in Osaka, Japan will be canceled
The final of the Grand Prix in figure skating series will be canceled. This became known to a TASS source.
The competition was to be held in Osaka, Japan from December 9 to 12. The decision to cancel the tournament is due to the threat of the spread of a new omicron strain of the coronavirus. The official announcement is expected in the near future.
Russians Kamila Valieva, Anna Shcherbakova, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Maya Khromykh and Alena Kostornaya qualified in the women's single skating for the Grand Prix finals. Among men, Mikhail Kolyada was supposed to represent Russia at the tournament. Also, four Russian sports couples and one dance duet received a ticket to the competition.
In the spring of 2020, the World Figure Skating Championships were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament was supposed to be held in Montreal.
