A huge oak tree planted by the writer Ivan Turgenev almost 200 years ago in the Oryol region and destroyed by a hurricane on November 30, they decided to replace it with a new one. In place of the tree, it can be planted its direct “heir” – in the museum-reserve “Spasskoye-Lutovinovo”, where the tree grew, a fund of seedlings-descendants of oak was formed. The director of the reserve, Sergei Stupin, in a conversation with the publication, called the death of the oak “an irreparable loss, which is still difficult to comprehend,” and the tree itself “a living symbol of love for the motherland”. The oak was recognized as the main tree of Russia in 2021, and in 2022 it was supposed to participate in the competition “European Tree of the Year.” Lutovinovo ”it is necessary to perpetuate the memory of the oak. Its trunk was preserved, and Klychkov called on public organizations, cultural communities and concerned citizens to find appropriate solutions.
