A surgeon from Austria was fined for amputating the wrong leg of an elderly man euros (approximately 646 740 thousand rubles), reports The Guardian.
According to the newspaper, an 82-year-old man was admitted to the Freistadt hospital in Austria, he needed an amputation of his leg. The 43-year-old health worker marked the wrong limb before the operation. Law enforcement agencies learned about the mistake a few days later, by that time the patient had already died.
The surgeon quit the clinic, calling the incident a “human and technical mistake” and moved to another city. The court found her guilty in a negligence case – the woman was fined and ordered to pay compensation to the patient's widow.
Earlier in Chita, as a result of the negligence of doctors, the child's limbs were amputated. Ambulance doctors twice came to call the one-year-old boy, did not recognize a serious illness and forged the signature of the patient's mother to refuse hospitalization.
