The journalist was convicted of encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine

In Lviv, journalist Boyko was sentenced to two years for calls to return the 1939 borders

Ukrainian journalist Elena Boyko was sentenced to two years in prison. The Lviv court found the woman guilty of separatism for calling for the return of the 1939 borders. The information is transmitted by Zaxid.net.

Boyko, who worked in Lviv in 2015, after the change of power in Kiev, left for Moscow and called herself a “Lviv journalist in exile”. In the Russian capital, she acted as an expert on Ukraine on television. However, in December 2018, a Moscow court found the journalist guilty of violating the rules of stay in Russia. She was fined and deported to the territory of Ukraine. In January 2019, she was arrested in Kharkov. Before that, she spent several hours in neutral territory, trying to ask for political asylum in another country, but she was sent to Ukraine.

According to the case file, Boyko in television programs called for the restoration of the borders of Ukraine as of 1939 – that is, at the time when the western territories of the Ukrainian SSR belonged to Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, and Crimea was part of the RSFSR. The journalist's words were qualified as an encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

However, Boyko will not be sent to the colony – she has already spent 412 days in jail, and therefore is considered to have served her sentence. In Ukraine, one day in pre-trial detention is calculated as two days of imprisonment.

Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Maxim Buzhansky predicted that Poland would repeat the events of 1939. According to the deputy, Warsaw became a victim of migrants because of its support from Western countries, just as in 1939 it became a victim of the Wehrmacht because of Germany's support in the war with Czechoslovakia.
