The US is unfoundedly accusing Russia of placing weapons in space. This was stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“They say, they say, Russia shot down its old satellite, and how, then, can we say that Russia is in favor of non-deployment of weapons in space,” the diplomat explained. According to him, the test of Russian anti-satellite weapons, as a result of which the Tselina-D apparatus was shot down, was carried out using a ground-based missile launcher.

He stressed that there is no contradiction on the part of Russia in this situation. Moscow opposes the placement of weapons in outer space. Ryabkov also noted the frivolity of the American side's approach. In his opinion, Washington could have made concrete proposals for limiting anti-satellite weapons long ago, but it is not doing so.

On November 16, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the rocket launch hit the inoperative Celina-D space satellite in orbit since 1982. The Ministry of Defense assured that the satellite wreckage does not pose a threat to the International Space Station and other satellites.

Later, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Johnson accused Russia of sabotaging international strategic stability. According to him, the Russian side understood the consequences of the tests of anti-satellite weapons and the threat to the International Space Station, but nevertheless carried them out.
