Russian was sentenced to 19 years for murdering wife and cat in front of three children

In Transbaikalia, the court sentenced a 40-year-old resident to 19 years for the murder of his wife with children

Sergei Voronin, 40, received 19 years in a maximum security penal colony for killing his wife and a cat in the presence of three children. On Wednesday, December 1, the representative of the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) Yegor Markov told Lente.ru.

The man was found guilty under Articles 105 (“Murder with extreme cruelty”), 245 ( “Cruelty to the animal that caused its death”) and 119 (“Threat of murder”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court awarded three million rubles in compensation to the sister of the murdered woman.

According to the investigation, on December 25, 2020, while intoxicated, Voronin quarreled with his wife, kicked her and promised to kill her. To make his words sound more convincing, he strangled the cat in front of her and three minor children. A few hours later, the head of the family again attacked his wife and strangled her with an electric wire. After that, he forced his 10-year-old daughter to drag her mother's body to the veranda, and then threatened her with murder if she told someone about what had happened.

The forensic examination found him sane. At the trial, he said that he was “too drunk” and did not remember the murder. The sister of the deceased took care of three children of the Voronins: girls 12 and 10 years old, as well as a boy of five years old. Psychologists work with them.
