This is stated in a study by scientists, which was published in the journal Research in International Business and Finance.
LEGO is becoming more expensive faster, since the number of sets is limited, especially those dedicated to cult films, books or historical events ( The Millennium Falcon, Corner Cafe, Taj Mahal). In addition, in the secondary market after toys are sold, the supply decreases, which also affects the price. Also, LEGO has many fans who can buy a construction set as a nostalgic thing.
Prices on the secondary market two or three years after the release of the set change from minus 50 to plus 600 percent per year. At the same time, small and very large sets go up faster than medium sets – in the first there are many unique parts. The researchers note that the prices of the sets are almost independent of the situation in the stock market. However, an investment in LEGO can only pay off in three years.
LEGO's profits more than doubled in the first half of 2021. The toy maker capitalized on customers who needed to entertain the kids left at home during lockdowns.
