Scientist assesses the resistance of a new strain of coronavirus to vaccines

Virologist of the Russian Academy of Sciences Netesov: the resistance of the omicron strain to vaccines will be found out in two weeks and Virology of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) Sergei Netesov assessed the resistance of the omicron strain to the immune response caused by vaccines. According to him, it will be found out only after two weeks, TASS reports.

The scientist explained that the resistance of the new coronavirus strain to vaccines will be determined in at least two weeks, since during this time it is possible to understand how many people vaccinated and unvaccinated with them got sick. It is also necessary to find out which drug they received. The situation is “being watched very closely,” Netesov noted.

“Now, so far there is information on the picture of the disease only for twenty patients who were at the South African doctor Angelica Coetzee, but she had young healthy people, they can be judged by them difficult, “- said the virologist.

Netesov added that there is concern about the emergence of the omicron strain. However, its objective danger has not yet been established, since the number of tracked patients does not exceed one hundred. According to the expert, the delta strain of the coronavirus was underestimated, so in Russia up to a thousand patients die from it every day.

Formerly Honored Doctor of Russia, epidemiologist and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko, he assessed the danger of the omicron strain. He urged not to panic over the new variant of the coronavirus.
