Experts have estimated chances of candidates for the post of Prime Minister
Candidate for the position of Chairman of the Russian government remains the main intrigue on the eve of the inauguration of President Vladimir Putin.
MOSCOW, may 4 — RIA Novosti. In the opinion of the majority of deputies and experts interviewed by RIA Novosti, the most likely to become head of the new Cabinet of Ministers is current Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. However, the short-list also includes a number of existing Ministers, the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, the Chairman of the accounts chamber Tatyana Golikova, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin and head of the Center for strategic development Alexey Kudrin.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Duma Committee on state construction and legislation Mikhail Emelyanov (“Fair Russia”) has told RIA Novosti that the deputies likely to approve the candidature for the post of the Russian Prime Minister the day after the inauguration of the President.
The decision rests with the President
The majority of the deputies in an interview with RIA Novosti refrained from forecasts concerning the candidacy of the Prime Minister. In particular the Vice-speaker of the state Duma from “United Russia” Olga Timofeeva and first Deputy head of “United Russia” Andrei Isayev was given to understand that the appointment to this high office is the prerogative of the head of state, so you need to wait for his decision.
Meanwhile, the head of the Committee on labor, social policy and veterans ‘ Affairs Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR) did not rule out that such a decision may be unpredictable and may depend on the current international situation. “You know that staff approach the President constructed, including the principles of unpredictability, and there may be adopted a variety of solutions. And depends, I think, from the international situation,” — said Nilov.
With this agrees the senior scientific employee of Institute of social Sciences of Ranepa Sergey Bespalov.
He added that if within the previous six years were commitments that Putin took Medvedev before his time: that he will guarantee him the Premiership, then they hardly can apply for the next term.
“In addition, the very high percentage of votes that got the current President (in the elections), he unties his hands in addressing this issue. So it all depends on that, from the point of view of Putin, is the main task of the government,” said Bespalov.
Professor of the Ranepa, the political scientist Vladimir Slatinov, in turn, noted that international factors matter when making this staffing decision.
“We understand that this increasing pressure requires the consolidation of power. And the care of the current Prime Minister is a very serious redistribution of spheres of influence, the restructuring of the decision-making mechanism. In a situation of increased pressure, of course, Putin to go to that would be very risky,” he says.
