According to the photographer, a bright white halo around the moon appeared in the night sky over the Tong River Canyon in Wyoming after the last snowfall.
The lunar halo is a rather rare phenomenon. It can usually be observed in cold weather, when the light from the Moon is reflected in a special way from tiny ice crystals in the air.
