Scientist Semenov: the omicron strain descends faster into the lungs, causing pneumonia
Alexander Semyonov, head of the Yekaterinburg Research Institute of Viral Infections at the Vector Center of Rospotrebnadzor, spoke about faster pneumonia with the omicron strain of coronavirus. His words are reported by the Izvestia newspaper.
As the scientist explained, the omicron, like the delta strain, is more trope, that is, it is capable of interacting with the epithelium of the lungs – the lower respiratory tract. Therefore, it descends faster into the lungs, causing pneumonia. “This is very alarming,” he stated.
At the same time, Semenov stressed that when infected with the previous variants of the coronavirus in humans, it took up to 10-11 days from the moment of infection to pneumonia. However, this period has now been reduced to 3-5 days.
