The Ministry of Internal Affairs completed its investigation into the theft from the Doomsday plane, the case was transferred to the Taganrog court 
-year-old accused of stealing aircraft equipment from an Il-80 (Doomsday aircraft) committed in the winter of 2020 in Taganrog. This was reported to “Lente.ru” in the press service of the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Rostov Region.
According to the investigation, in December 2020, a man with unidentified accomplices entered through the emergency door on board the aircraft, where he dismantled and stole property. The amount of damage exceeded 2.5 million rubles. The materials of the case with the indictment were sent to the Taganrog City Court for consideration on the merits.
In January, a resident of Taganrog, Zhora Khachunts, was arrested. Its DNA was compared with the traces found on the plane.
Information about the theft from the “Doomsday” plane, which was stationed at the airfield of the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after G.M. Berieva (TANTK), appeared on December 7 last year. Unknown persons removed from the Il-80 more than 30 radio stations installed on board. The Doomsday plane was at the TANTK for scheduled modernization work. After their completion, the main entrance, the cargo compartment hatch and three emergency exits were sealed, but this did not stop the thieves. Criminals' fingerprints and footprints were found at the crime scene.
The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) clarified that the stolen equipment was of secondary importance. All special equipment was dismantled from the aircraft immediately upon arrival and was stored in special rooms.
Since 1987, four Il-80 aircraft have been produced. The ship is an air command post and has onboard protection against weapons of mass destruction. The equipment installed on the aircraft allows you to control all types of armed forces.
