State Duma deputy Kalashnikov: if the laws are observed, the lease of the island by Denmark will pass without risks
Danish energy company Copenhagen Offshore Partners plans lease of the Russian island of Shumshu, which belongs to the northern group of the Kuril Islands. Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, assessed the risks for Russia in the transfer of the island, his words are quoted by “Sekret Firmy”.
According to the deputy, the Danish company will have to comply with a number of laws, including those related to land lease. In this case, the transfer of the island will take place without risks for Russia.
“There is another risk here. The risk that this land will be harmed in some way, roughly speaking, will pump everything out of there and leave. But this should also be monitored by the relevant authorities, “the parliamentarian added.
Earlier, the Governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko told about the plans of the Danish company to lease an island in the Kuril Islands. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners is investing in renewable energy and intends to produce hydrogen on the island using wind power for sale to Japan.
