The US Department of Commerce plans to impose duties on imports of fertilizers from Russia

The US Department of Commerce may impose duties on imports of fertilizers from Russia. The agency's notice of this has been published in the US federal register.

The US is ready to hit Russian companies with duties, since the Department of Commerce believes that producers and exporters of the urea-ammonia mixture in Russia receive subsidies that are subject to US countervailing measures.

They want to collect duties from the companies “Eurochem” and “Akron”, they produce, among other things, mineral fertilizers. The additional rate for each of the companies may be more than 9.5 percent (9.84 and 9.72 percent, respectively). The agency plans to make a final decision in April 2022.

In June, the Ministry of Trade organized an anti-dumping investigation against products from Russia and Trinidad and Tobago, the export of which allegedly harms the American economy. In November last year, the department introduced duties on the import of phosphorus fertilizers from Russia.

In November, several of the largest domestic producers of mineral fertilizers predicted possible problems with shipments abroad due to the introduction of quotas.

Russian On November 3, the authorities adopted a decree restricting the export of nitrogen and complex nitrogen-containing fertilizers from December 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin explained such measures by the need to provide the domestic market with fertilizers in order to avoid an increase in food prices.
