It is clarified that it was presented at the UNWTO Best Tourist Villages competition, in which villages from 75 countries of the world participated. It is known that this project was launched with the aim of developing and popularizing rural tourism.

According to Doguzova, the participants were assessed according to several criteria: the best preserved their authenticity, folk arts and crafts and the identity of the village; maximum adaptation to the needs of tourists. The winning villages will be provided with the support and promotion of UNWTO.

First, an internal selection took place in Russia, since under the terms of the competition, each country could nominate no more than three applicants. As a result, villages from the Tula, Sverdlovsk and Yaroslavl regions were entered for the competition. “Bekhovo is the only village recognized as one of the best not only in Russia, but throughout the entire post-Soviet space,” the head of Rostourism emphasized, adding that this place inspired many landscape painters and poets to create their works.
