drawing up a new strategic concept for NATO. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
Blinken noted that the last time such a document was drawn up in 2010, when the world looked completely different. He said that then Russia was still mentioned as a partner, and the topic of China was not touched upon. In addition, he added that now there are all sorts of new challenges and threats, especially in cyberspace, as well as hybrid conflicts and problems in space.
The American diplomat stressed that Russia still remains at the center of NATO's concern as well as the problem of terrorism. He noted that the main foundation of the alliance is the provision of powerful protection and deterrence, as well as the ability to participate in the proper management of conflicts, while strengthening partnerships with other countries.
Previously, Blinken held talks with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. They discussed cooperation in supporting Ukraine against “Russian aggression” and arms control. State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Blinken and the NATO Secretary General discussed the importance of continuing consultations and the alliance's unity on various issues, including supporting Ukraine against aggression from Russia. In addition, the parties considered the preparation of a new strategic concept for NATO, arms control and regional security.
