Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nestik: doctors can believe the myths about vaccinations because of their own psychotraumas
For this reason, doctors may spread myths about vaccination. According to him, doctors, like people without medical education, lose their foothold and seek emotional support against the background of their own psychological trauma caused by the pandemic, RBC reports.
“Regardless of the level of education, we are all vulnerable, and a person will find a structure that will make one or another conspiracy theory consistent for him. So he again finds a foothold, receives emotional support from other similar followers of the conspiracy theory, “the scientist said.
According to a survey conducted by the Institute of Psychology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the summer of 2021, among two thousand people who refused from vaccinations, the reasons were that the doctors they knew did not advise them to get vaccinated.
Nestik noted that this position of doctors may be due to the level of knowledge, specialization, decreased social trust or negative experience of change.
< p>The professor clarified that on the issue of vaccinations, people most often listen to the opinions of doctors they know, so it is important that experts recommend getting vaccinated in the absence of indications and working to popularize the vaccination campaign.
On November 17, Senator, Candidate of Medical Sciences Alexander Bashkin proposed to deprive anti-vaccination doctors of medical diplomas for life. He is confident that the physician who discourages patients from vaccinations does not have the proper education, medical knowledge and practice. For this reason, the senator clarified, such doctors should not work.
After that, Russian doctors disagreed. In an interview with Lenta.ru, therapist Irina Yartseva said that she could understand the fears of doctors who do not trust the vaccine. In this regard, she proposed allocating a budget for educational work to reduce fear of vaccination. At the same time, therapist, cardiologist Yaroslav Ashikhmin considered it right to deprive doctors of their diplomas. He would also introduce financial or administrative liability for anti-vaccine doctors.
