Apple client, name which is not disclosed, won a lawsuit against the IT giant and forced the company to compensate for moral damage. The court sided with the plaintiff, who accused the American brand's smartphones of a low level of personal data protection and called Apple devices unsafe.
The plaintiff's gadget was stolen in Sao Paulo in June 2021. According to the victim, the attackers managed to hack the protection of his iPhone 12, set up a new Apple ID and, in an unknown way, withdraw a certain amount of money from the accounts. Representatives of the victim in court stated that the expensive device was supposed to protect user data using a biometric system and a digital password, but it was hacked.
As it became known to journalists, earlier the bank in which the victim kept his money recognized the criminals of the transaction and compensated the client for the stolen funds. In court, the man used this fact as an argument against Apple.
As a result, the court sided with the victim and recognized that the incident “went beyond a simple inconvenience.” Since the bank had previously compensated for the loss of the user, the court ordered Apple to pay compensation for moral damages in the amount of 5,000 reais, or about $ 890.
In the summer, Apple was forced to send a free charger to the owner of the iPhone from Brazil through the courts. In late March, the local regulator fined the company for selling an iPhone without a charger.
