The Parliament of South Ossetia has ratified the agreement with Russia on dual citizenship. This was reported in the legislative body of the republic, reports TASS.

The parliament said that the deputies approved the draft law on the ratification of the relevant treaty, which allows citizens of the republic to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner and provides them with additional social guarantees.

In September, South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev and Russian Ambassador to the Republic Marat Kulakhmetov signed an agreement on dual citizenship between the countries. In addition to the indicated preferences, it also allows persons with Russian and South Ossetian passports to undergo military service at their place of permanent residence at the time of conscription.

Prior to this, the draft agreement on dual citizenship was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
