Poll by VTsIOM: almost half of Russians have a negative attitude to the rejection of paper money
Among Russians, 47 percent (52 percent of men and 42 percent of women ) have a negative attitude to the idea of abandoning paper money and leaving the opportunity to pay only with a bank card or online transfer. This is stated in a poll by VTsIOM, RBC reports.
Now almost half (45 percent) of Russians are ready to part with paper money and pay for purchases and services using non-cash methods. Less than a third (28 percent) use cash and non-cash payment methods equally. Another quarter of respondents – 26 percent – would prefer to pay for goods and services in cash.
At the same time, 15 percent of respondents prefer to pay only in banknotes, and 11 percent – only by non-cash methods. According to the survey, citizens aged 60 and over are more likely to choose paper money (46 percent pay this way always or in most cases). On the contrary, young people (56-70 percent) and Russians aged 35-44 (50 percent) prefer non-cash payments more often than others.
Another question was whether Russians were ready to give up paper money if cashless payments will be accepted everywhere. To this question, 48 percent of the respondents answered that they are rather not ready (52-56 percent among citizens from 35 to 59 years old). Almost the same number of Russians – 49 percent – said they were more likely to be ready.
Earlier, Nikolai Pereslavsky, an expert at the Department of Economic and Financial Research of the CMS Institute, named cases when payment in cash gives a number of advantages. According to the expert, if a Russian decides to buy a product for cash and then returns it, then the refund will be simplified: usually this happens within ten days, but in the case of cash, the money will be returned immediately.
