Tel Aviv topped the ranking of the most expensive cities in the world to live 
research of the analytical division of the Economist Intelligence Unit.
In total, 173 cities participated in the study, analysts studied data on the cost of 50 thousand goods. The capital of Israel has risen by five positions in a year. The second place was shared by Paris and Singapore, followed by Zurich, Hong Kong, New York, Geneva, Copenhagen, Los Angeles and Osaka. Tehran rose the fastest in the ranking, soaring from 50th to 29th place.
The list was compiled on the basis of 10 main categories of expenses. Tel Aviv ranked first in the cost of alcohol and transport, fifth in the cost of personal care, and sixth in terms of prices for vacations. The city's leadership in the overall rating is due to the strengthening of the shekel against the dollar and rising inflation, which has led to higher prices for transport and food. Damascus, Tripoli and Tashkent were named the cheapest cities to live in. The largest drop in the ranking was shown by Rome, which dropped from 16 to 48 in a year.
According to the authors of the study, thanks to mass vaccinations, most of the world's economies are recovering from the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, but large cities are still facing sharp bursts of morbidity. This leads to various social restrictions, disrupts supply chains and provokes a shortage of goods and a rise in prices.
In November, the SuperJob portal published a rating of the most expensive megacities in Russia. The top five are Moscow, Ufa, Kazan, Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don. Most of the residents of most megacities spend on housing, housing and communal services and food.
