Irkut Corporation built the first MS-21-300 with a wing made of Russian materials
The first MS-21- 300 with a wing made of Russian-made composite materials. The plane was transferred to a flight test unit. This was reported by Rostec.
The aircraft was assembled at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. MC-21-300 was transferred from a branch of the Irkut corporation of the United Aircraft Corporation to a flight test unit for ground checks and preparation for test flights.
The aircraft wing was created using Russian-made polymer composite materials. The development of materials began after the US imposed trade restrictions on AeroComposite in 2018.
Rostec emphasized that materials for composite structures MS-21 were developed with the participation of scientists from Moscow State University and specialists from Rosatom. The aircraft wing is manufactured using a patented vacuum infusion technology. The wing consoles and the center section are produced at the Aerocomposite-Ulyanovsk enterprise.
In October, Rostec announced the tests of the PD-14 engine with volcanic ash. After exposure to the ash of the Shiveluch volcano, the characteristics of the engine's gas generator remained almost unchanged.
In August, the head of the UAC, Yuri Slyusar, announced the date for the start of regular MC-21 flights. According to him, the plane will start operating regular flights already in 2022.
