Rostec has prepared for serial production the Gibka-S air defense system
Anti-aircraft missile system short and ultra-short range “Gibka-S” is ready for serial production. The new air defense system was prepared by the Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering (KBM), which is part of the High-Precision Complexes holding of the Rostec State Corporation. Bekkhan Ozdoev, the industrial director of the cluster of weapons, ammunition and special chemistry of the state corporation, told TASS about this.
“The export-oriented modification of the Gibka-S air defense system is fully ready for serial production,” Bekkhan Ozdoev said. >
KBM General Designer Valery Kashin noted that the complex was tested in 2019.
The Gibka-S air defense missile system became the first Russian self-propelled short-range and ultra-short-range complex of the VSHORAD type (Very Short-Range Air Defense ). Gibka-S can provide protection against aircraft, helicopters, drones and cruise missiles that fly at minimum altitude. The air defense system on the chassis of the Tigr-M vehicle can use ammunition from the Igla, Igla-S and Verba portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
In October, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, Army General Oleg Salyukov announced the connections to new MANPADS. He noted that the new-generation Metka complex will soon enter service.
In September, Fanil Ziyatdinov, General Director of the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant, spoke about the modernization of the Tor complex. The work is aimed at improving the combat and operational characteristics of the air defense system.
