Humanity will have to give up beer and video games to save it from disaster

Credit Suisse: To fight global warming, we need to change our usual way of life … Credit Suisse analysts have found that, among other things, people will need to give up video games, frequent washing, drinking beer and meat to combat warming, RIA Novosti reports.

The researchers studied the daily habits of the planet's inhabitants in different areas – food, travel, clothing, entertainment, home appliances, fitness – and suggested how they would change against the backdrop of global warming. Experts have found that, on average, 3.4 tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions are per person in the world. The population of developed countries harms the environment the most – emissions from one household reached 130 tons per year.

Analysts have identified four categories of consumers – “travel little, buy online”, “buyers with medium mobility”, “active buyers with a high carbon footprint ”and“ avid travelers ”. For each type of person, they calculated the level of emissions based on their lifestyle.

The most dangerous for the planet turned out to be “active shoppers” who often go to stores and like long trips – they emit 25 tons of emissions into the atmosphere a year. The next in terms of annual emissions were “avid travelers” with 17 tons of carbon. The optimal category for the climate turned out to be online shopping adherents and couch potatoes – they account for less than five tons of emissions.

To reduce the carbon footprint to 2500-3000 a year, analysts advised to abandon red meat – instead of it, you can eat chicken and seafood twice a week. Seven times a week, you can include vegetables in the diet, five times fruits and two times – pasta and potatoes. It is permissible to consume 50 grams of chocolate and chips, as well as 25 grams of cheese. Among the drinks, experts urge to abandon beer and coffee in favor of wine and diet soda.

The researchers propose to minimize travel – up to one short-distance flight a year, 5,000 kilometers by electric car, and the use of public transport in the city four days a week. In addition, you can travel medium distances five times a year, and you can go on a long trip twice a year. However, analysts do not recommend staying in five-star hotels – a maximum of four stars.

You should visit fitness three times a week for 30 minutes, and it is supposed to watch TV for no more than an hour – it is permissible to spend the same amount of time charging your smartphone and laptop, however video games will have to be abandoned. Household habits will also have to be adjusted – wash no more than once a week, take a shower for eight minutes three times a week and flush the toilet twice a day. When choosing clothes, you will have to be ascetic – two pairs of jeans, three shirts and five T-shirts should be enough for a year.

Previously, analysts found that residents of developed countries are not ready to change their habits to save the planet. Most of the Europeans surveyed understand the importance of coping with the climate crisis, but almost half of them (46 percent) are not going to adjust their daily lifestyle.
