An Australian tourist was accused of setting fire to a quarantine hotel

An Australian tourist burned two floors of a quarantine hotel and went to court. 7News.com.au writes about it.

The incident took place on Sunday, November 26, at about 7 am. A 31-year-old local tourist from Cairns, who had arrived two days earlier in Queensland, was self-isolating in a city hotel with her two children.

According to the newspaper, for unknown reasons, the woman lit a fire under the bed his room – the fire quickly flared up and burned not only the Australian room, but also two floors of the hotel. According to the police, before the incident, law enforcement agencies had “some problems” with the tourist.

More than 160 guests of the quarantine hotel were evacuated, there is no information about the victims. It was noted that later people were provided with alternative accommodation facilities for a period of self-isolation.

The Cairns court heard the tourist's case on Monday, November 29. The woman was charged with arson and deliberate damage to the property of the hotel.

Earlier in November, one of the Russian tourists, Dmitry Korshunov, who was arrested in Turkey on suspicion of setting fire to a forest, spoke about attempts to extinguish the fire. The Russian admitted that one of his acquaintances called him to go to the Lycian Trail, and in fact he ended up there by chance. Korshunov stressed that when they noticed the fire, they tried to put out the fire themselves.
