Natural architecture. How to look unique column of lake Crowley

Fascinating place.

On the shore of lake Crowley in California there are amazing rock formations in the form of a spiral columns with a height of 6 meters, which are connected by a beautiful natural arches.

The column was first discovered in 1941 when they came to the surface from under water after the construction of reservoirs in the upper reaches of the Owens river.

In 2015, the geologists from UC Berkeley interested in this unusual place and decided to conduct a serious study. It turned out that, despite its apparent artificiality, these columns are of natural origin.

Scientists discovered that the stone pillars with arches formed as a result of melting snow, when the cold water seeped through the hot volcanic ash after a powerful eruption 760 thousand years ago.
