Merkel has proposed to extend sanctions against Russia

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Berlin will perform for the extension of sanctions against Russia. About it reports Reuters with a reference to the statement by Merkel.

“We are concerned about Russia’s behavior. We do not accept the (unilateral) use of the Azov sea,” added the German Chancellor.

The European Council meeting on 13-14 December, plans to hear reports Merkel and President of France Emmanuel Makron on execution of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass. Thereafter, the EU will consider extending sanctions against Russia.

Earlier, the special envoy of the US state Department in Ukraine Kurt Volker said that the EU and US should consider the possibility of introducing additional sanctions against Russia after the incident with the ships of the Ukrainian Navy in the Black sea, which occurred on November 25. Then Russian border guards detained a Ukrainian court “Berdyansk”, “Nikopol” and “Yana Kapu”, tries to pass from the Black sea to the sea of Azov through the Kerch Strait, the passage of rules which defines Russia. The crews of 24 Ukrainian sailors, was detained, and later arrested and taken to jail in Moscow.
