Bloomberg: the most expensive whiskey was sold for $1.1 million at auction in Hong Kong

TASS, may 20. A bottle of 60 year old Macallan Scotch whiskey sold for $1.1 million at auction trading house Bonhams in Hong Kong. It was the most expensive bottle of the drink sold at auction, Bloomberg reported.

Single malt Scottish whiskey manufacturer aged in barrels from 1926 to 1986. Lot, setting a record, was part of a series of 12 bottles of 0.75 l, signed Italian artist Valerio Adami, who developed the design of the label.

The previous record set at the same auction, lasted only a few hours. It was $1.01 million and belonged to the beverage 60 years old the same manufacturer. The bottle was one in a series, which was designed by the British artist Peter Blake, famous for his work on the cover of the album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Beatles.

Prior to the current auction record belonged to a six-liter bottle of 60-year-old Macallan whiskey, which was sold for almost $632 million in 2014.
