“Fitzgerald collided with a merchant vessel about 2:30 a.m. local time, June 17 (20:30 GMT on 16th June approx. TASS) approximately 56 nautical miles (103 km) South-West of Yokosuka (Japan)”, — he said.

Benham said that after the incident, the United States “requested the assistance of Japanese coast guard”. “At the moment is determined by the extent of the damage (caused to the vehicle) and injury of the crew. The incident is under investigation”, — concluded the representative of the PACK.

Yokosuka — Central Japanese city in the kantō region, located in Kanagawa Prefecture, 70 km South of Tokyo.
