TEL AVIV, 8 Jun — RIA Novosti. Israeli police found the remains of a Russian Orthodox priest who went missing in Jerusalem four years ago, told RIA Novosti the official representative of law enforcement bodies Michael Zingerman.
The remains were found in late April in the area of Hizma — Arab village near Jerusalem. A forensic examination on the basis of DNA analysis showed that this remains Nizhny Novgorod priest Basil Varlamov.
According to police, the death was not violent. “Clearly established that we are not talking about a criminal offense,” said Zingerman.
Father Vasily went missing in August 2013 while in Israel on a pilgrimage trip with his family. According to his relatives, he went for a walk from the hotel in Jerusalem and never returned.
Zingerman said that the police in looking for the priest, was constantly in touch with his family and representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church in Israel.
