Russian President Vladimir Putin understands the importance of high technology and the digital economy and is very interested in this field. About it as transfers TASS, said the first Vice-Premier Igor Shuvalov at a panel discussion of the St. Petersburg international economic forum (SPIEF).

In late 2016, Putin instructed the government together with the presidential administration to develop and approve before 1 June 2017 the program “Digital economy”. In its framework should be provided for measures “on legal, technical, organizational and financial conditions for the development of the digital economy in Russia and its integration into the space of the digital economy member States of the Eurasian economic Union”.

By 1 June the final document was not yet ready. Rough draft contains nine areas: regulation, information infrastructure, research and development, control system, HR & education, information security, governance, smart cities and digital health. Sources of funding for the program has not yet been determined. According to Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, the government is considering to extend funding of the project up to 100 billion rubles a year.
