Gone from the life of Ukrainian poet Boris Oleynik

Moscow. April 30. INTERFAX.RU on Sunday, in the 82nd year of his life in Kiev, he died Ukranian poet, Chairman of the Ukrainian Fund of culture Boris Oliynyk, reported on the official website of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

“Ukrainian culture has suffered an irreparable loss, went into eternity is the greatest poet and public figure, Hero of Ukraine, Chairman of the Ukrainian Fund of culture, Boris I. Oleynik… He has done a lot to the nation adopted its language and culture,” he said.

Borys Oliinyk, born 1935, poet (published since 1948), translator and author of over 40 books. In 1971-74, Deputy head of the Union of writers of Ukraine, 1976-1991 Secretary of the Union of writers of the Ukrainian SSR and the USSR. A member of the CPSU since 1961, member of the CPSU Central Committee in 1990-91; first raised the issue of responsibility of leadership of the USSR during the Holodomor in Ukraine at the state level.

After Ukraine gained independence was one of the initiators of Communist party of Ukraine. He was a people’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of I-IV convocations (1992-2006), as a nonpartisan and from the CPU. The delegation was headed by the Ukrainian Parliament in PACE, in 1996-2006 was Vice-President of PACE. In 2004 he supported the “Orange revolution” in 2005 was expelled from the Communist party, then at the next election is not passed in Parliament with a new political project.

Since 1990 — member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 1992 — academician of the Ukrainian ecological Academy of Sciences. In 2010 he was appointed Chairman of the Committee for the National prize of Ukraine Taras Shevchenko. Head of the Ukrainian Fund of culture, was co-chair of the forum of Slavic peoples.
