Three-quarters of Russians approved of the refusal to broadcast “Eurovision”

Moscow. April 24. INTERFAX.RU — the Majority of Russians (75%) support the decision of the “First channel”, refused because of the scandal with Ukraine from the broadcast of the song contest “Eurovision”, according to VTSIOM.

Disagreement with the position of the channel was expressed by 18% of participants nationwide telephone survey conducted April 17-18 among 1,200 respondents.

According to sociologists, in five years the share of Russians who ever watched “Eurovision”, has grown: if in 2012 that saw the broadcast of the competition, reported by 76% in 2017 82%. The proportion of regular viewers (those who are trying to follow broadcasts annually) — 19%. Among women (25%), respondents aged 60 years and older (28%) this figure is significantly higher than among men (12%) and 18-24 year olds (13%), and 25−24летних (9%).

Never watched Eurovision 17% of Russians, the survey showed.

As reported, Russia has chosen to participate in the international competition of the singer Yulia Samoylova with the song “the Flame is Burning”. From childhood, she is wheelchair-bound and has a first group of disability.

On 22 March the security Service of Ukraine made the decision on a ban of 3 years of entry into the country Samoilova as illegally visited the Crimea, on the basis of the data about violation of legislation of Ukraine. In the European broadcasting Union (EBU) expressed profound disappointment at this decision and stated the intention to contact with Kiev, to all the contestants could take part in it. March 23, EBU was invited to participate Samoilova in the Eurovision song contest on a video-link. But “the First channel” has rejected this proposal, saying that the organizers should ensure that the performance of the singer in accordance with the regulations.

13 April, the Russian “First channel” declared that will not broadcast this year’s Eurovision song contest due to the failure of the Ukrainian authorities to allow the country to participate in this singer. The EBU, in turn, said that Russia will not be able to participate in the Eurovision song contest in 2017.
